China Travel in 2026: What Romanian, Ukrainian and Georgian Applicants Should Check

China has continued to adjust its short-term entry rules for foreign visitors. For some nationalities, this makes travel simpler. For others, a visa may still be required.

For Romanian citizens, the situation has become more convenient because Romania was included in China’s expanded visa-free access for short stays. This can be useful for tourism, family visits, short business trips, transit-style travel, and first-time visits.

But the key point is simple: visa-free does not mean “no rules”.

Before travelling, Romanian passport holders should still check:

  • maximum allowed stay
  • passport validity
  • permitted purpose of travel
  • whether the trip is tourism, business, transit, or another purpose
  • entry and exit requirements
  • airline requirements
  • whether the rule is still active on the travel date

Even with visa-free entry, carry your travel documents and proof of onward travel.

For Ukrainian and Georgian citizens, the situation may be different. A visa-free rule for one nationality does not automatically apply to another nationality, even if the person lives in the EU or travels from the same airport.

This is why nationality, passport type, residence permit, and travel purpose must be checked separately.

A common mistake is planning a trip based on another person’s experience. For example, a Romanian citizen and a Ukrainian citizen living in the same country may have different entry rules for China. A Georgian citizen may also have a different route depending on passport, travel purpose, and current bilateral rules.

What documents should travellers prepare even when visa-free travel applies?

For short trips, it is still sensible to carry:

  • return or onward ticket
  • hotel booking or host address
  • travel insurance
  • proof of funds
  • clear travel plan
  • passport valid for the full trip
  • documents explaining business purpose if travelling for business

If a visa is required, preparation becomes more detailed. The applicant should check the correct visa category, photo requirements, application form, appointment rules, and supporting documents.

China can be a good destination for tourism and business, but the entry route must be checked carefully. The most important question is not “Can people travel to China now?” but “Can this specific person travel with this specific passport for this specific purpose?”

Visa rules and processing times can change. Always check the official website before applying.
