What a U.S. Tourist Visa Really Costs in 2026 — After the New Fees
The headline price of a U.S. visitor visa has long been the $185 application fee. In 2026 that is only part of the story. A new $250 Visa Integrity Fee, created by federal law in 2025, pushes the real cost of a B1/B2 visa to roughly $435 for most applicants. Here is exactly what you pay, and when.
Last updated: 15 October 2026. Fee rules are set by U.S. authorities and the collection mechanics are still being finalised — confirm current amounts on travel.state.gov before you pay.

The $185 application fee (MRV)
Every B1/B2 applicant pays the standard nonimmigrant visa application fee — $185 — before the interview. This part has not changed, and it is non-refundable whether or not the visa is approved.
The new $250 Visa Integrity Fee
The Visa Integrity Fee was introduced by the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, signed into law in July 2025. The key points:
- Amount: $250 (set for fiscal year 2026; it can rise each year with inflation).
- Applies to: most nonimmigrant visa categories, including B1/B2 visitors.
- When it is charged: at the time the visa is issued — not when you apply. If the visa is refused, it is not charged.
- On top of the $185 application fee, so the combined visa cost is about $435.
- Exempt: Visa Waiver Program travelers (who use ESTA) and certain categories do not pay it.
Is it refundable? Maybe — but do not count on it yet
The law describes the fee as potentially refundable if you comply fully with your visa conditions (no overstay, no unauthorised work). However, U.S. authorities have not yet published the refund process. Treat the $250 as a real cost when you budget, and keep every record of your lawful travel.
What about ESTA? (For visa-free travelers)
If you qualify for the Visa Waiver Program and travel on ESTA rather than a B1/B2 visa, you do not pay the visa fees above. Separately, the ESTA fee itself rose to $40.62 for applications submitted on or after 16 October 2026. ESTA and a B1/B2 visa are two different routes — most of our clients need the visa.
The real 2026 budget for a B1/B2 visa
- Application fee (MRV): $185
- Visa Integrity Fee (at issuance): $250
- Subtotal: about $435 per person
- Plus, depending on your case: travel to the interview city, photos, document preparation.
